The wooden ball that they throw with their feet is made from the base of the oak tree and is about 3 to 3-1/2 inches in diameter. The ball isn't actually kicked, it is picked up with the foot and thrown up to 100 feet ahead of them. They must then run up to it and repeat the process. Here the ball is marked with the blue arrow.
